Beach breaks and sunsets
Surf photographer in El Cotillo
Golden hour, every evening.
A fishing village on the north-west tip of the island, with long sandy beaches facing straight into the Atlantic and the sun setting right behind the line-up.
The spot
South of the village, the beaches below the old castle pick up almost any westerly swell. The waves are beach breaks, so the peaks move with the sand. On good days they are fast, hollow and powerful, with a heavy shorebreak.
When it works
All year when there’s swell from the west or north-west. Easterly winds blow offshore and groom the faces. On small days it can work for improvers; on big days it’s for experienced surfers only.
Shooting here
This is golden-hour country. The sun drops into the ocean behind the surfers, so evening sessions give backlit barrels, glowing spray and silhouettes. It’s my favourite light on the island.

Ready when the swell is. Tell me your dates.
Message me with your dates and level. I’ll come back with the best spot and time.
